Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade. The rear sight is a fixed notch milled into the slide.

Grip Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered black plastic with molded star emblems. There is light oxidation on the grip frame, particularly around the edges where metal is exposed beneath the grips. The grips themselves are intact and rate in Good to Very Good condition.

Magazine Quantity & Condition: One 8-round magazine is included, in Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and sharp, with well-defined rifling and no visible pitting. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains approximately 90-95% of its original finish. There is patina, and light surface oxidation on the exposed metal near the grip and controls. The screw heads are serviceable. The markings, including the Chinese arsenal and character markings, are crisp. Overall, this pistol rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The slide cycles smoothly, and the single-action trigger breaks cleanly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Includes original military capture papers, confirming battlefield recovery during the Vietnam War.

Our Assessment: Owned by an Air Force General, this is a Chinese Type 54 Tokarev, produced at Factory 66 in 1964, and marked with Chinese characters over the slide, a feature commonly seen on pistols supplied to North Vietnamese “The People’s Army” forces during the Vietnam War. These pistols were known for their ruggedness, and they performed reliably under extreme battlefield conditions.

This example’s value is elevated by the presence of original capture papers, which tie the firearm directly to a historical conflict. The presence of Chinese characters on the slide further authenticates its Cold War provenance and battlefield role.

For military historians, Tokarev enthusiasts, and Cold War collectors, this is a rare opportunity to own a documented Vietnam War battlefield-captured sidearm with markings and condition that tell a rich story. So bid high and bid firm. I highly encourage you to take a close look at the condition of this item in our high-quality photos. Good luck with your bid. -K.F.
