Our Assessment:  From a collector’s perspective, the inert Thompson 1928-A1 is a prized piece due to its historical significance and iconic status. The original Thompson M1921, famously known as the “Tommy Gun,” gained notoriety during the Prohibition era, being associated with both law enforcement and notorious gangsters.  The Thompson M1928A1 is a military variant of the iconic M1921 Thompson submachine gun, widely used by U.S. and Allied forces during World War II. Based on the civilian Model 1928, the M1928A1 version was introduced in 1940 and adapted for mass production, though it retained many of the expensive and complex features of the earlier models. Its distinctive design, with a wooden stock, vertical foregrip, and drum magazine, makes it an instantly recognizable firearm. An inert version, while non-functional, replicates these features with precision, offering collectors an authentic representation of the weapon without the legal and safety concerns of owning a live, fully automatic firearm. The inert Thompson 1928A1 allows collectors to own a piece of history, appreciating the craftsmanship and design of the original gun.

The inert model can be displayed prominently in a collection, serving as a conversation piece and educational tool. Its realistic appearance and feel make it a centerpiece for any collection focused on historical firearms, allowing enthusiasts to showcase a legendary weapon while adhering to regulations and safety standards. Collecting inert firearms like this Thompson 1928A1 enables enthusiasts to preserve and celebrate the legacy of these iconic weapons
