Our Assessment: This T-series Browning Hi-Power with its tangent V-notch is a quietly remarkable example of FN’s mid-century production—an intersection of classic Browning design and the practical demands of service and competition. Built at FN Herstal in the 1960s and imported under the Browning name, this pistol wears the era’s polished blue with matched serials and Belgian proofs that speak to factory assembly and inspection. The sliding tangent sight, graduated to 500 meters, and serrated barleycorn front blade mark this example as one intended for precise sighting at varied ranges, a feature that elevates it above the simple fixed-sight service pistol and roots it in a time when adjustable, graduated sights remained valued for deliberate, aimed fire. Chambered in 9mm Luger, the Hi-Power’s single-action geometry and well-proportioned 4.7-inch barrel translate the cartridge’s manageable recoil into a predictable, familiar shooting platform. Cosmetically this pistol presents extremely well—roughly 99% of the polished blue finish remains with only faint handling wear and minimal surface oxidation in protected serrations—while the checkered walnut panels retain sharp definition and pleasant red interiors. The bore is a standout: very bright with sharp rifling and rated 10/10.

Overall this Hi-Power is a finely preserved example of FN’s postwar workmanship and the practical evolution of the Browning pistol for experienced shooters. It reads as a pistol that was built to be used with care—one whose physical details reward inspection and whose historically faithful features tell a clear story of high-end manufacture, specification, and purpose. -R.E.
