Our Assessment: The Swiss Model 1882 Ordnance Revolver is a historically significant double-action/single-action (DA/SA) revolver chambered in 7.5mm. Adopted by the Swiss Army in 1882, this revolver remained in service until the mid-20th century, renowned for its precision engineering, reliability, and robust construction, hallmarks of Swiss craftsmanship. Chambered in the unique 7.5mm Swiss Ordnance cartridge, this revolver delivers a balanced performance with moderate recoil and good accuracy. The cartridge, roughly equivalent to .32 caliber, is known for its efficient ballistics, making it suitable for both military and police use at the time. One of the notable design elements of the Model 1882 is its DA/SA mechanism. This allows the revolver to be fired in double-action mode, where pulling the trigger cocks and releases the hammer, or in single-action mode, where the hammer is manually cocked before firing. This versatility offers the shooter the option of a quicker double-action pull or a more precise single-action shot.

Overall, the Swiss Model 1882 Ordnance Revolver is a testament to Swiss engineering and military firearm design. Its combination of reliability, precision, and robust construction made it a favored sidearm for Swiss military and police forces for many decades. Even today, it is appreciated by collectors and firearm enthusiasts for its historical significance and exemplary craftsmanship. -R.E.
