This rifle was originally made in Model 1938 configuration. It is not a converted Model 1896/38.

Markings: There is no visible import mark. The top of the receiver is marked “HUSQVARNA VAPENFABRIKS / AKTIEBOLAG / 1943”. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number. The bolt handle knob and the rear of the bolt assembly, in 3 places, are marked with the last 3 digits of the serial number. The marking onthe buttplate has been removed.  Most of the metal parts are marked with a small “crown”. The bottom of the grip is marked with a small crown. The small wedge on the marking disk is marked above the “1”. The medium wedge is unmarked. The large wedge is marked above the “6,51”. A trajectory plate is correctly mounted upside down, next to the marking disk. Barrel Length: Approximately 23 ½ Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a tall bladed post set under a removable protective hood. The rear sight is a “U” notched blade attached to a sliding sight escalator marked from “1 – 6”.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece hardwood stock has a straight grip, finger grooves, nose cap, hole for the included cleaning rod, barrel band, two sling loops, marking disk, trajectory plate, and a metal buttplate. The buttplate has been cleaned with an abrasive media. The wood shows several scrapes, scratches & compression marks. Some of the marks have damaged small portions of the surface wood. These marks have been oiled. The LOP measures 14 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The lands are bright. The muzzle and grooves are semi bright. The rifling is deep. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish. The bottom metal has been refinished. It shows discoloration. The metal shows scrapes, thin scratches and light discoloration. The bottom metal shows scratches. The screw heads show light use. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with 2 thread protectors, a flash suppressor, and a front sight protector. These ites show scuffs, small scrapes & light oxidation. The tread protector installed on the rifle has been treated with cold blue and shows discoloration. These items are in about Very Good Plus condition.

Our Assessment: This Swedish Mauser is a Model 1938 Short Rifle. It was made by Husqvarna back in 1943. It was originally made in M38 configuration. It is not a cut down & converted M96 (Model 1896/38) as many are. It looks pretty good for being almost 80 years old. The markings are deep and include matching part numbers on the receiver & bolt assembly. The rifle is chambered for the flat shooting 6.5×55 cartridge. It should keep you smiling at the range.
