Our Assessment: The Ruger No. 1 is a legendary single-shot rifle, admired for its strength, elegance, and exceptional accuracy. Designed around a falling block action actuated by a lever integrated into the trigger guard, the No. 1 has long been favored by hunters and marksmen who value the precision and reliability of a well-made single-shot. Chambered in the potent .375 H&H Magnum, this rifle is purpose-built for serious big game hunting—whether you’re tracking elk, moose, or dangerous game on safari. The cartridge’s deep penetration, flat trajectory, and time-proven performance make it an excellent pairing for Ruger’s robust platform.
This 1977 example is in Excellent condition, retaining 99% of its original blued finish with crisp markings and a clean, bright bore with sharp rifling. The checkered wood stocks are equally well-preserved, showing only light handling marks and no structural issues. The rifle is fitted with factory open sights and a Ruger scope rail, offering flexibility for iron or glass sighting options. The Decelerator buttpad helps tame the recoil of the .375 H&H, making this rifle as practical in the field as it is beautiful on the rack. Whether you’re a Ruger collector, a dangerous game hunter, or simply appreciate the craftsmanship of a fine single-shot rifle, this No. 1 is a timeless example of American rifle-making at its best.
