Our Assessment: The Ruger No. 1 is a single-shot, falling-block rifle renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship, strong action, and accuracy. This particular example, manufactured in 1983 and chambered in .357 Magnum, is a rather rare and unique configuration, as the No. 1 is more commonly found in high-powered rifle calibers. With its 22-inch barrel, this rifle balances compact handling with sufficient barrel length to maximize the velocity and performance of the .357 Magnum cartridge, making it suitable for hunting medium-sized game at close to moderate ranges, as well as for target shooting and collecting. The iron sights provide a reliable backup sighting system, while the inclusion of a Leupold 4x compact scope with a simple duplex reticle offers a clean and practical aiming solution, ideal for quick target acquisition in the field.

The checkered walnut stock and forend give this rifle a classic and elegant appearance, staying true to the traditional sporting rifle aesthetic that Ruger intended for the No. 1 series. The falling-block action is known for its exceptional strength and reliability, allowing for a very compact overall rifle length compared to bolt-action counterparts with similar barrel lengths. While the .357 Magnum chambering makes this No. 1 an unusual find, it also allows for the use of .38 Special rounds, increasing versatility for reduced recoil shooting and small game hunting. This combination of classic styling, robust action, and versatile chambering makes it a standout firearm for both collectors and shooters who appreciate the unique blend of modern precision and traditional craftsmanship. Please see our high quality photos via the link and best of luck with your bidding!!!-R.L.
