Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece, dark gray synthetic skeleton Zytel stock, with semi-pistol grip with serrated grip insert, straight comb, rubber buttpad, forend with serrated grip insert, and integral sling rings front and rear. The LOP measures 13 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light wear, with very minor light scratches scattered throughout. The stock is starting to become faded, as a lot of plastics do over time. The stock fits the barreled action tightly, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Very Good condition.
Type of Finish: Stainless
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows superficial imperfections on most of the metal surfaces, with some heavier scratches on the floorplate. The most notable wear on this rifle is the heavy corrosion on the rear of the bolt, and on the bolt handle. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Fair to Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The safety will lock the trigger as intended, but the corrosion stops the safety from going all the way back and locking the bolt like it should when engaged. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope rings as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: The Ruger M77 Mark II All-Weather in 7.62×39 offered here is a practical, utility-minded bolt-action built for harsh conditions, with factory stainless components and a durable synthetic stock.
The 7.62×39 cartridge was developed in the Soviet Union during World War II and was standardized in the late 1940s for use in the SKS and AK-47 family of rifles. The cartridge is celebrated for its reliable feeding, moderate recoil, and effective performance inside typical hunting and defense ranges, making it a popular choice worldwide for brush hunting and utility rifles.
This 1999 Ruger retains approximately 90% of its original metal finish and presents with a very good synthetic stock that shows only light handling marks and some expected fading to the polymer. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 10/10. Importantly, there is notable corrosion on the rear of the bolt and on the bolt handle. That corrosion prevents the safety from moving fully rearward and thus it does not lock the bolt as designed. Because of these issues we were unable to demonstrate a proper bolt-locked safety position during inspection. The corrosion and impaired safety function materially affect the safe use of this rifle
Prospective purchasers should not fire this rifle until a qualified gunsmith has performed corrective work. Recommended work includes a full professional disassembly and degrease, careful corrosion removal and inspection of the bolt and receiver.
Offered as inspected with scope rings included, this rifle will appeal to a shooter who wants a stout 7.62×39 bolt gun that is ready for a quick restore and ready to be put back into service. Please check out our high quality photos, and good luck on your bids! – J.D.
