Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered american walnut, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, red rubber buttpad, and an ebony tipped forend, with sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows minor wear, with only minor dings and handling marks scattered throughout. The stock’s finish is strong throughout. The checkering is well defined. The stock fits the barreled action tightly, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97%+ of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows minor thinning of the finish on the trigger guard. Otherwise, the bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads range from sharp, to tooled, but all retain serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The trigger has a crisp and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope rings as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: The Ruger M77 Magnum is Ruger’s heavy-duty extension of the M77 line — a stout, reliable controlled-feed bolt action built to handle full-power magnum cartridges with repeatable accuracy and rugged serviceability. Ruger’s Magnum variants pair a beefed-up action and stout barrel with classic American hunting ergonomics, making them a natural choice for hunters who need a durable, no-nonsense rifle for large and dangerous game. This 1991 M77 Magnum in .416 Rigby is a textbook example of that intent: compact enough for close shots in dense vegetation, with a 24? barrel yet substantial enough to deliver the deep-penetrating performance that the .416 Rigby is known for at moderate ranges.

Chambered in .416 Rigby — a traditional, big-bore turn-of-the-century cartridge prized for dependable penetration and hard-hitting performance on heavy game — this rifle is well suited to serious safari and heavy-game duties. Cosmetically and mechanically the piece checks very well: the metal and finish are essentially intact (about 97% remaining), the bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 10/10, and the American walnut stock presents in Excellent condition with tight fit and crisp checkering. The action, safety, and trigger all functioned correctly during inspection. Supplied with scope rings as noted, the rifle is a robust hunting platform, ready for the most dangerous of African game.
