There is a leather sling attached to the stock. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows minimal wear, with only minor handling marks/dings and one minor hairline scratch on the left side of the buttstock. The buttpad has some wear on the bottom. Otherwise, the stock’s finish is strong throughout, the checkering is well defined, and there are no chips or cracks. The stock fits the barreled action tightly, with no play. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some light fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows no notable wear, other than a couple of minor dings on the trigger guard. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the tang safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the leather sling as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: The Ruger M77 in .25-06 Remington is a classic early Ruger bolt-action from the company’s formative years — the M77 was introduced in 1968 as Ruger’s rugged controlled-round-feed, Mauser-style action and this 1972 example carries that heritage in a heavy-contour 24” bull barrel thoughtfully configured for hunting and field use. The .25-06 itself was developed by wildcatting the .30-06 family and was standardized commercially by Remington in 1969, offering a flat-shooting, high-velocity quarter bore option for medium game. Visually this rifle presents very well: the one-piece checkered walnut stock shows only light handling marks. The receiver is notched for Ruger rings, and the heavy barrel gives the rifle a purposeful, balanced presence.
Functionally and cosmetically the rifle is excellent. The action cycles and the tang safety operates as inspected the bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 9.5/10. The metal retains about 99% of its original blued finish with only minimal, localized dings on the trigger guard, and the stock fits tightly with well-defined checkering and no structural defects — overall condition is Excellent. For those who collect original tang safety model 77’s, or for those who are in need of an other varmint or deer rifle, this M77 .25-06 is one of the best choices one could make.
