Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to a hooded, ramped, checkered base fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight has one fixed “U”-notch and one folding “U”notch marked “300”, dovetailed to a banded base at the rear of the barrel. The receiver is drilled and tapped with two-piece Redfield bases and rings holding a 2.5-8x Leupold scope with duplex reticle. The scope has scattered light ring wear on the body with fairly clear glass.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a full-length one-piece checkered walnut with nosecap, capped pistol grip, monte-carlo comb with shadow-line cheekpiece, serrated black plastic Steyr buttplate and sling swivels front and rear. The stock has some scattered light nicks, scuffs and small scratches. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14 1/2″ and 13 1/2″ from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttplate. The plate has light wear with well defined serrations. The stock is in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original, the bolt is serial-matching.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is a little stubborn copper fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish. The action shows light operational wear. There are a few scattered minor marks. The trigger guard has a slight plum hue. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with the installed scope as described.

Our Assessment: The Mannlicher Schoenauer rifles were very popular in Europe, and were mainly made in European calibers until after WWII when they began to be imported into the United States. The Model 1900 rifle continuously evolved until the last model was developed: the Model 1961 MCA, or Monte Carlo All-purpose. This example is a Carbine made in 1966 with a 20″ barrel chambered in .270 Winchester. The rifle is in Fine condition with about 96% of its original metal finish remaining. The bore is in great shape and the mechanics are strong. Mannlicher-Schoenauer rifles are known to have the smoothest action of any bolt action rifle, helped a little by their rotary magazine that does not drag on the bolt like the follower in a conventional magazine. And although this rifle would make someone a great deer rifle, it is also likely to catch the attention of the collectors out there. Please see our photos and good luck!
