Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “STEYR, GRAND RAPIDS, MI.” and “.300 Win. Mag.” the right is marked “ONORM M3170 STLF3” (steel type/batch code), and at the rear with Austrian proofs and “179” date code. The left side of the receiver is marked with the company logo and “STEYR-MANNLICHER-S”, the right is marked “MADE IN AUSTRIA”, with the serial number, two proof marks, and “179” date code. The bolt is marked “27.04.015” and the bolt cap is marked “24.04.0003”, the underside of the bolt handle is marked “89” with two proof marks and “179” date code. The magazine has a stag scene with “300 Win. Mag.” and a Steyr logo.
Barrel Length: The hammer-forged barrel is approximately 25 1/2″, and 27″ to the front of the installed muzzle brake.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned into a serrated ramp base that is fixed to the barrel; the sight is hinged on the pin and is spring loaded, adjustable for elevation via a turn wheel. The base is grooved for a hood, but none is present. There is a dovetail base at the rear of the barrel, but no rear sight is present. The top of the receiver has had two-piece Leupold-style bases welded in place. The holes for mounting the bases with screws have also been filled with weld. Visible through the socket in the front mount is a drilled and tapped hole in the top of the receiver.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is skip-line checkered walnut with wood nose and grip caps, inlaid white diamond on the grip cap, QD sling sockets front and rear, monte-carlo comb with cheekpiece and black rubber Kick-Eez buttpad. The stock has a few scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches with one more notable ding on the left under the receiver. There are some spots of pooled finish, most in the checkering, and there are areas of thinning finish. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is well defined, generally sharp. The LOP measures 14 1/8″ and 13 1/4” from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the pad. The LOP measures 13” and 12 1/8″ from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the wood. The pad has wear around the edges, most notable at the right of the heel and some small losses at the toe, but is still supple. Overall, the stock is in Very Good condition as refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is well defined. There is scattered light erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. There are some scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. The muzzle brake has scattered discoloration. There is a small but notable ding on the top-left of the barrel in front of the rear sight and another on the top-rear of the receiver at the edge of the bolt handle-slot. The plastic trigger guard/magazine well assembly has cracks to each side of its front and rear mounting screws (there is also a mold-seam to the front and rear of the front mounting screw), this is common with this model. There is some scattered residue from the stock finish. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, the rifle is in Good-Very Good condition as modified.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is crisp when not set, very light and crisp when set. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is one four-round rotary magazine that has light wear from use.
Our Assessment: This is a fast handling double set trigger rifle with provision for either iron sights or mounting a scope. You will be limited to using Leupold-style rings as the bases have been welded to the receiver. The guns has signs of use, and was obviously put together the way a previous owner wanted with the scope mounts and an after-market muzzle brake. Chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum, it will be suitable for any large North American game. Its rotary, removable magazine makes for quick reloading which is nice for such a sporting round.
