Markings: The left of the barrel is marked “STEYR, GRAND RAPIDS, MI.”, “.270 Win.”, the right is marked with Austrian proofs, “778” date code and a steel batch number. The left of the receiver is marked with a Steyr logo and “STEYR MANNLICHER Luxus”, the right is marked “MADE IN AUSTRIA” on the bridge and on the chamber ring with the serial number, Austrian proofs and “778” date code. The bottom of the bolt handle is marked with Austrian proofs, “778” date code, and “22”. 

Barrel Length: 20”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is blade pinned to a serrated, ramped base fixed to the front of the barrel; the blade is adjustable for elevation. The rear sight is an express-style square notch with white triangle aiming reference dovetailed to a base fixed to the rear of the barrel. The rear sight is secured by a set-screw, allowing for windage adjustment. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped with Conetrol two-piece bases installed. A set of 1″ rings is included, but not installed. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a Mannlicher-style checkered walnut full stock with steel nosecap, capped pistol grip with Steyr medallion, monte carlo comb with cheekpiece, ventilated brown rubber Steyr recoil pad ans sling studs front and rear. The stock has only a few scattered minor marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the recoil pad. The pad has minor wear. Overall, the stock is in about Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original 

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with a single 3-round magazine and a set of 1″ rings.

Our Assessment: The Steyr Mannlicher Luxus is a high-end bolt-action rifle manufactured by the Austrian company Steyr Mannlicher. It is known for its elegant design, accuracy, and durability. The rifle features a classic walnut stock with a Bavarian cheekpiece and a unique Mannlicher-style fore-end, which is rounded and extends almost to the muzzle. The Luxus is available in a variety of calibers, this one chambered for .270 Winchester. The Luxus also features a cold-hammer-forged barrel, which is known for its accuracy and durability.

This rifle shows a beautiful wood stock with nice checkering and strong mechanics. The rifle is in Excellent condition showing signs of limited, if any use. This will make a classy and effective hunting rifle for the winning bidder, but would also be a nice addition to a Steyr collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
