Our Assessment: This Standard Products M1 Carbine was manufactured between April 1943 and May 1944. It is built on an original Standard Products receiver and fitted with a Rock-Ola barrel marked with the correct “P” proof and flaming bomb ordnance mark. Like many carbines that went through postwar rebuild programs, this rifle is composed of a mix of parts from multiple wartime contractors, including an Underwood front sight, Packard Inland rear sight, IBM slide, NPM trigger housing, Hemphill hammer, Saginaw Gear lug, and Jamestown Lounge Co. handguard. The stock is an Inland Overton with Augusta Arsenal rebuild markings, sanded and refinished but retaining ordnance acceptance stamps. Postwar upgrades such as the type three barrel band with bayonet lug and rotary safety are present, reflecting the rifle’s service and refurbishment history.

The M1 Carbine was developed as a lightweight, semi-automatic firearm to arm support troops during World War II, but it quickly became a favorite among front-line soldiers due to its portability and reliability. This example captures that history, with components from multiple prime contractors illustrating the logistical realities of wartime production and the arsenal rebuild system. Despite its mixed parts and refinished stock, the rifle remains a solid representation of a service-grade M1 Carbine, carrying with it the story of how American industry came together to supply the tools necessary for victory.
