Mechanics: Both actions function as intended. There is light side to side play of the cylinders while in lockup, and the actions are smooth. We did not fire these handguns. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. These both sport a Montado style hammer.

Our Assessment: The Ruger New Vaquero is a modern take on the classic single-action revolver, built with a slightly scaled-down frame that more closely resembles the original Colt Single Action Army while incorporating modern internal safety features. This consecutive serial-numbered pair, manufactured in 2011, is chambered in .357 Magnum and features polished stainless steel finishes, 4 5/8-inch barrels, and upgraded Montado-style hammers—popular among cowboy action shooters for their lower spur profile and faster cocking. Both revolvers are in very good overall condition, each retaining approximately 97% of their original finish. Each displays modest operational wear including crisp cylinder turn lines, light trigger and hammer marks, and minor handling marks primarily concentrated on the bottom of the grips. The bores are bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, each rating a solid 9.5 out of 10. The checkered black plastic grips with Ruger medallions remain free from chips or cracks. The actions function correctly with light rotational play in lockup, and both revolvers operate smoothly.
