Caliber: .22 LR (.22 Long Rifle). A .22 LR chamber insert and barrel sleeve have been installed in the .30-06 barrel.

Action Type: Bolt Action, Internal Magazine

Markings: The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / ARMORY. / MODEL 1903. / 108279”. The top of the Sedgley replacement barrel is marked “U.S.M.C. / 7 – 41 / circled S”. This replacement barrel was originally made by the Sedgley Manufacturing Company under contract for the U.S. Marine Corps (page 164-165 of Joe Poyer’s book, The M1903 Springfield Rifle and its Variations, 3rd Edition). The safety is marked “SAFE READY” and the magazine cutoff is marked “ON OFF”. The barrel band is marked “U”. The bayonet lug is marked “H”. The rifle uses an M2 (Model 1922) bolt assembly. The top of the bolt handle is marked “NS” for nickel steel and “M2”. The bottom of the bolt handle is marked “0”. The bolt body is marked “M2” ahead of the locking lug.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade atop a barrel mounted base. The rear sight is a “U” notched blade attached to a fully adjustable sight ladder marked from “3-27”. When flipped up separate notches and an aperture on the ladder can be used for sighting. The top of the receiver is drilled & tapped with 4 holes that can be used to secure a scope base. Only 2 screws remain. They show heavy use.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece hardwood stock has a straight grip, metal nosecap, stacking loop, barrel band, 2 sling loops, 2 through bolts, and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage. The buttplate shows scrapes and small scratches. The nosecap shows scrapes. The wood shows scrapes, scratches and compression marks. Some have damaged small portions of the surface wood. Most of these marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished Receiver

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. The receiver has been refinished in blue. The barrel and bottom metal show scrapes and small scratches. The receiver shows light scrapes. The front sight shows deep scratches. The screw heads show heavy use. The markings are deep. Screw holes in the top of the receiver have damaged a small portion of the receiver markings. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition as refinished.

Mechanics: This rifle is now a single shot rifle. There is no internal magazine or sled for a .22LR shell.
The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
