Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory Model 1892 Krag Rifle is now a Sporting Rifle. The barrel has been cut back, the stock has been cut down & shaped, and a recoil pad has been added. This Krag is a (bit) confusing but very interesting rifle. It is a Model 1892 that was produced in 1895, but it is correctly marked “1894” on the receiver. According to page 254 of Joe Poyer’s book, The American Krag Rifle and Carbine, all Model 1892 receivers are marked “1894”.
This Krag is now a Sporter but has nice markings that make it quite collectible. This Model 1892 Krag is an antique so No FFL is required…unless you live in California.
