Receiver: “U.S. RIFLE / CAL. .30 M1 / SPRINGFIELD / ARMORY / 3780817”.
Trigger Group: “6528290-HRA N”- A Harrington & Richardson part (page 90 of Joe Poyer’s M1 GARAND 1936 to 1957, 6th Edition).
Hammer: “C46008-3 SA”– A Springfield part (page 98).
Safety: “HRA” –  A Harrington & Richardson part (page 103).
Follower: Unmarked – Used by all 4 manufacturers (page 83).
Receiver Leg: “Z 3 8”, and “D 28291 35” – Correct for the Springfield serial number (page 29).  Also marked “SA / 12-65” in electric pencil. This indicates a Springfield Armory Arsenal Rebuild in December of 1965.
Op Rod: “D35382-9 SA” – A Springfield part (page 71).
Barrel: “LMR” (Line Material Company of Birmingham, Alabama), “D6535448”, “10 53”, “A 22”, “P”, “M”, and with a faded “crossed cannons” stamp – LMR provided barrels for International Harvester (pages 63 – 65).
Bolt:“D28287-12SA / W9B”- A Springfield part (page 53).
The stock and sights are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice and “DRC”. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “WCE” on the edge.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The left side of the stock has a trajectory card taped above the trigger.
The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, a stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The wood shows scrapes, scratches, and handling marks. A few have damaged small portions of the surface wood. The LOP measures 13 ¼  inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original to Arsenal Rebuild

Bore Condition: The lands are bright. The grooves are semi bright; light grey near the muzzle. The rifling is deep. There is fouling and intermittent light erosion at the muzzle and in the grooves approaching the muzzle. The fouling should clean up some. The bore shows an M.E. of 1.5. The throat shows a T.E. of 3.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The gas tube and bottom metal have been refinished. The metal shows scuffs, light scrapes, and handling marks. The left rear of the receiver has tape residue on it. The top of the barrel shows light scrapes and an area of thinning. The right side of the receiver shows thinning consistent with cycling the action. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was made back in 1945. The rifle was later Arsenal Rebuilt at the Springfield Armory in December of 1965. It is marked accordingly on the receiver leg. This is a good looking M1 Garand that will add to your WWII collection and can do tons of work at the range.
