The stock and sights are described below.
Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings.The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “UP arrow DOWN arrow / BATTLE triangle RANGE”.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The face of the grip is marked with a faint “circled P” proof. The inside of the forearm is marked “OR” and “3392.
The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, a stacking loop, two sling loops, and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The refinished buttplate has surface erosion showing therought he finish. It also shows light scrapes. The stock is missing a chip of wood at the front of the trigger group. The stock shows various scrapes and light scratches. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: This M1 Garand uses a 2 grooved restored barrel. The barrel is a Model 1903 barrel mated to the rear of an M1 Garand barrel. The lands are bright, the grooves are semi bright and the rifling is sharp. There is fouling and some frosting in the grooves near the muzzle. The fouling should clean up some. The bore shows an M.E. of -1 (negative 1). The throat shows a T.E. of 2.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish as refinished. The receiver legs and bottom rear of the receiver have surface erosion showing through the new finish. They also show thinning. The gas tube assembly (more prominent) and barrel show discoloration from oxidation. The bottom of the trigger group shows scratches. The right side of the receiver and the bolt show some thinning consistent with cycling. The remaining metal shows scuffs & handling marks. Most of the markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition as refinished.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
This M1 Garand uses a 2 grooved restored barrel. The barrel is a Model 1903 barrel mated to the rear of an M1 Garand barrel. Check with a gunsmith to determine if this rifle is safe to fire.

Our Assessment: This early Springfield Armory M1 Garand was made back in 1940, before the U.S. entered WWII. The action uses all Springfield parts, but does have a restored 2 grooved barrel installed. It has nice markings on the metal which include an early 5 digit serial number. The rifle has been refinished so it looks pretty good for being over 80 years old.
