Stock Configuration & Condition: The bottom of the grip is marked with a “circled P” proof. The left side of the stock is marked with a Springfield Armory Arsenal Rebuild marked, “SA / E in a box”. The “E” appears to have been restamped.
The interior of the grip is marked with a Danish sticker. The sticker is marked “HTK” (Haerens Tekniske Korps = Army Technical Corps), with a number that does not match the serial number, and with other Danish information (see photos). The bottom of the butt is marked with the same number listed on the sticker. The bottom of the grip has an unmarked Danish marking disc installed. These indicate post WWII Danish service.
The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. A Danish oiler is stored in the butt. The buttplate shows scratches, pin prick surface erosion, and discoloration. The wood shows numerous scrapes, scratches, and compression marks. Several have damaged small portions of the surface wood. Most of these marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its metal finish. The top rear of the receiver has some pinprick surface erosion showing through the (rebuild) finish. The metal shows scrapes, small scratches and varying degrees of thinning. The right side of the receiver shows some thinning consistent with cycling. Most of the markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A plastic Danish Danish oiler is stored in the butt. It is marked “crown / FKF” on the cap and “crown / HTK / 112-522-11281 / OILIEFLASKE” on the bottle. It still contains oil. It shows scrapes and light discoloration. Overall it is in about Very Good Plus condition. The rifle comes with an unmarked green canvas sling. This appears to be a Danish sling. The canvas shows discoloration & fading. The metal shows scrapes. It is in about Very Good Plus condition.

Our Assessment: This Springfield M1 Garand was made back in 1941. After WWII it made its way to Denmark where it was issued to the Danish Navy. It is marked with a desirable Danish “anchor” on the rear sight cover. The rifle has been rebuilt. It now uses a 1960 dated Danish barrel and a Danish stock. The serial number on the Danish stock does not match the rifle’s serial number. We do not know if the stock was replaced during a Danish Rebuild or shortly after Danish M1 Garands were sold into the U.S. market. This Rare Danish Navy M1 Garand will add nicely to your collection.
