The stock, sights and scope assembly are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture set between protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice and “DRC”. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “WCE”.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The face of the grip is marked with a “circled P” proof. The left side of the stock, above the trigger, is marked with a Defense “eagle” acceptance stamp.
The three piece oil finished stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, two sling loops, stacking loop, and a metal buttplate with a hinged door for storage. The refinished buttplate shows scrapes, oxidation, and some ink. The wood shows several scrapes and scratches. Some have damaged small areas of the surface wood. These marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 13 ? inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is bright; semi bright near the muzzle. The rifling is deep. There is no erosion. The bore shows an M.E. of 0.5. The throat shows a T.E. of 2.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish as refinished. The metal shows scrapes and small scratches. The right side of the receiver and front of the bolt show light thinning from cycling. The bottom rear of the receiver shows thinning and pin prick surface erosion. The markings are well defined. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
The M5 Bayonet mounts the rifle properly.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with an invoice, chamber flag, and owner’s manual from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). The invoice lists the rifle’s serial number among other items purchased from the CMP. Some of the items are crossed out. The invoice is in about Very Good condition. The “CMP” marked chamber flag and manual are in Very Good Plus condition.
The rifle also comes with a South Korean M5 Bayonet, South Korean marked canvas sling, plastic oiler containing a pull through thong, 2 clips, storage pouch, and sight protectors. The bayonet is wrapped in Korean marked storage paper. The bayonet shows scuffs & light scapes. It Is in Fine condition. The sling buckles show oxidation. The sling is in Very Good Plus to Fine condition. The oiler and contents show use and are in Very Good condition. The clips show scuffs & scrapes. They are in Very Good Plus condition. The rubberized canvas storage pouch shows creasing and light soiling. It is in Very Good Plus condition. The front plastic sight protector is cracked in a few places. The sight protectors are in Fair to Good condition.

Our Assessment: This Springfield M1 Garand Rifle was originally built back in the 1950’s. It was purchased through the CMP and has since been nicely refinished. It looks great and has a strong bright bore. This rifle should keep you smiling at the range. The rifle comes with lots of accessories including a South Korean marked sling and a South Korean M5 Bayonet.
