The stock and sights are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “V arrow” twice and “PB” which is an Italian mark. The elevation knob is marked “2 4 6 8 10 11” and “M”.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The face of the grip is marked with a “P” proof. The left side of the grip is marked with a faded Springfield inspector’s cartouche, a “box” containing “S.A. / E.McF.” (page 134).
The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, stacking loop, two sling loops, and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The refinished buttplate shows several small scrapes & scratches. The wood shows numeros scrapes, scratches and compression marks. Several have damaged or removed small protons of the surface wood. Most of these marks have been oiled over. The majority of these marks are on the main body of the stock. The LOP measures 13 ? inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The grooves are grey. The rifling is deep; less pronounced at the muzzle. There is fouling and erosion in the grooves. The bore shows an M.E. of 4. The throat shows a T.E. of 4.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish as refinished. The metal shows scuffs & handling marks. The gas tube shows scrapes and areas of thinning. The bottom metal shows scrapes and an area of oxidation. The front of the bolt both shows light thinning consistent with cycling. The markings on the metal are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was made back in 1942. At some point the rifle was rebuilt using all Springfield parts including a 1951 dated Springfield barrel. The rifle looks good and has deep markings on the metal. It should be fun to shoot and will add to your Military or WWII collection.
