The stock and sights are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “UP arrow DOWN arrow / BATTLE triangle RANGE”.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The face of the grip is marked with a “circled P” proof. The left side of the stock, above the trigger, is marked with a Defense “Eagle” acceptance stamp.
The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, a stacking loop, two sling loops, and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt.  The buttplate shows some small scrapes. The wood shows several scrapes & scratches which have been oiled over. Some have damaged small portions of the surface wood. The LOP measures 13 ? inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original to Rebuild

Bore Condition: The lands are bright, the grooves are semi bright and the rifling is deep. There is fouling around the gas port hole which should clean up. There is no erosion. The bore shows an M.E. of 0.8. The throat shows a T.E. of 2.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The bottom metal has some light surface erosion showing through the new finish. The rear of  the receiver also shows discoloration due to refinishing.  The metal shows scuffs, scrapes, a few small scratches and light thinning on the leading edges of the metal. The most prominent marks are on the gas tube. The right side of the receiver and the bolt both show some thinning consistent with cycling. The markings on the metal are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was made back in 1942. At some point the rifle was rebuilt using mostly Springfield parts including a 1955 dated Springfield barrel. The rifle looks great and has a strong right bore. It should be fun to shoot and will add to your Military or WWII collection.
