The stock and sights are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice and “DRC”. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “WC E” on the edge.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The face of the grip is marked with 2 “circled P” proofs; one is faded. The left side of the stock, above the trigger, is marked with a faded Defense “Eagle” acceptance stamp.
The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The buttplate shows scrapes & small scratches along the edges. The left side of the stock shows a deep scrape which has removed a small portion of wood. The top of the handguard shows an area that is missing a few very small surface chips. The wood shows a few other scuffs & handling marks. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The groves near the muzzle are light grey. The rifling is deep. There is fouling and light intermittent erosion in the grooves near the muzzle. The fouling should clean up some. The bore shows an M.E. of 1. The throat shows a T.E. of 2.5.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish. The trigger group has been refinished. The metal shows scuffs, light scrapes, and light thinning on the leading edges of the metal. The gas tube and bottom metal also show scrapes & small scratches. The right side of the receiver and front of the bolt show light thinning from cycling. The markings on the metal are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Certificate. It lists the rifle’s serial number, the previous owner’s name and a “Nov 19, 2003” date. Overall certificate is in about Excellent condition.

Our Assessment: This Springfield M1 Garand was made back in 1955. It was eventually sold by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) and comes with a CMP Certificate of Authenticity. This M1 Garand uses all Springfield parts. It looks great and still has a strong bore. It will add to your Springfield or Military collection.
