Our Assessment: This Springfield M1A standard-issue rifle was manufactured by Springfield in 1990 and is chambered in .308 Winchester, fitted with a classic walnut stock that preserves the rifle’s traditional M14 silhouette. Paired with a Bushnell Elite 3200 4-12X scope mounted via a SADLAK mount; the scope features objective-mounted parallax adjustment, covered 1/4-MOA turrets and a simple duplex reticle for a straightforward sight picture. Overall the package presents as a ready-to-shoot M1A set up for precision at extended ranges while retaining traditional wood furniture and handling.
What makes this example especially notable is the Winchester M14 barrel dated Feb 1961 installed on the rifle, an uncommon and historically interesting pairing. Winchester produced M14-spec barrels during the early service era (even though the company did not manufacture complete M14 rifles), and the 2/1961 date ties the barrel to that early production period; fitted to a 1990 Springfield receiver, it creates a bridge between original-era hardware and later civilian production. The M1A itself is Springfield’s civilian rendition of the military M14, which evolved from the M1 Garand into a 7.62×51mm battle rifle with detachable magazine and select-fire capability; that lineage, coupled with a genuine early Winchester M14 barrel, gives this rifle both functional credibility and a tangible link to mid-20th-century military production.
