Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory Model 1899 Krag Carbine was made back in September of 1900. It is a true Model 1899 Krag Carbine not a Conversion as it is marked “1899” on the receiver and there were no Model 1899 Krag Rifles made; only Carbines. The rifle is 120 years old and is in good shape with a bore that can put lots of .30-40 Krag downrange. It even has deep markings on the metal and wood. Model 1899 Krag Carbines are scarce. Only 36,000 were ever produced so don’t we see many in our shop. This one should add to your Military or Krag collection. For more on this Model 1899 Krag Carbine see pages 77 to 79 of Lt Col. William S. Brophy’s book, The Krag Rifle. Good luck.
