Markings: Has the standard 1896 markings, however there are no stock markings as it has been sanded and refinished.
Barrel Length: 22”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a pinned blade on a raised base. The rear sight is a folding ladder sight, adjustable for elevation and windage, with a “U”-notch when folded down.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is two piece smooth wood. There are light handling marks present with some scattered dings and scuffs. There is a crack running from the tang, one running between the sling mount and receiver, and one on top in between the rear sight and receiver. There is a chip on top of the stock just forward of the butt plate. The butt plate fits the frame, but not perfectly flush. The butt plate does not have any play. The stock rates in about Fair condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its non original metal finish. The balance of finish shows light wear with blemishes and scuffs from handling and storage. The screw heads are lightly tooled with turnable slots. The markings are clear and legible. Overall, this rifle rates in about Good condition.
Mechanics: The action and safety function correctly. We did not fire this rifle. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic’s check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.

Our Assessment: The Springfield Model 1896 Krag-Jørgensen rifle was America’s primary military rifle at the close of the 19th century and saw service in the Spanish-American War, the Philippine-American War, and early National Guard service. Its smooth bolt-action and side-loading magazine made it unique among contemporary military rifles.
