Our Assessment: This is a Spanish FR8 bolt action rifle. The FR8 (FR standing for fusil reformado) was developed in the 1950s to be used as a training rifle, alongside the FR7, for the forthcoming CETME rifles. The FR8 was based on the Spanish M43 Mauser short rifle. These are equipped with the ability to launch rifle grenades, as well as a faux gas tube under the barrel which was used for storing a cleaning kit and an attachment point for a bayonet. This example was made in 1955 and has a clear receiver crest. The stock is in great shape with only minor blemishes and compression marks. The bore is in great shape as well as should make for a good shooter, but be careful as these are known for their recoil, but should be mitigated thanks to the Uncle Mike’s buttpad. This would fit wonderfully into any Spanish surplus or Mauser collection. Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! – L.S.
