Markings: The right side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON” the left is marked “9MM”. The left side of the frame has S&W’s monogram logo, the right has the four-line Marcas Registradas. The sideplate is marked “Pro Series”. The yoke cut is marked with the serial number and the model number. The yoke is marked with an inspection mark. The sides of the grip frame have inspection marks and the butt is marked with the serial number.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Patridge blade and is pinned to a rise in the solid, serrated rib. The rear sight is a flat top, square notched leaf in a base that is micrometer-click adjustable for windage and elevation. The top strap is factory drilled and tapped for mounting an optic (none included).
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one-piece black rubber Hogue Monogrip with molded S&W medallions, finger grooves, and their pebble texture. There are a few little rubs and light handling marks. The grips rate in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is some wear on the front edges of the barrel that have caused the matte finish to go smooth. There are some scattered light marks. The cylinder has some fouling on the front edges. The matte cylinder has a few little rubs that have caused smooth spots and there is a light turn line. There are light handling marks. The hammer and trigger have minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder produces minimal side-to-side play in full lockup of all 7 chambers. The double-action trigger pull is smooth, the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with four moonclips and keys to the internal lock.
Our Assessment: The 986 Pro Series is a well-balanced, double-action revolver from Smith & Wesson perfect for competition, defense, or informal target shooting. It features a 7-shot titanium alloy cylinder, pro series 5″ barrel with a recessed crown, and a Patridge front sight with a micrometer rear sight. This revolver is in Excellent condition with light operational wear and comes with four moonclips to get you started, equally suited to adding to a S&W collection or hitting the range.
