Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the barrel flat is marked “S” and the right side of the barrel is marked “S. & W. 357 MAGNUM”. The yoke cut is marked “MOD. 65-3”. The rear face of the cylinder is marked “F”. The left side of the frame has an S&W logo. The right side of the frame is marked with the four-line “Marcas Registradas” address. The butt of the grip frame is marked with the serial number. The yoke and sides of the grip frame are marked with inspection marks.

Barrel Length: 3”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramp set on the rib. The rear sight is a notch milled into the top strap. Red paint has been applied to the front sight and white paint has been applied to the rear sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece laminate wood with finger grooves and Smith & Wesson medallions. There are dings on the front bottom corners of each panel, a few of the laminate panels have split on the bottom of the left panel. The grips rate in about Fine Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are a few scattered little light scuffs and draglines. Some of the scuffs have caused smooth areas, most noticeable on the cylinder. There are a few little nicks and light scratches, the most noticeable are on the backstrap and trigger guard. There are some light handling marks. The screwheads are lightly worn. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double-action is smooth, the single action is crisp. The lockup has some light play. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be required to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a leather Galco holster.

Our Assessment: This S&W .357 Magnum revolver with its heavy 3” barrel is a true service handgun and can easily be carried openly or concealed. It could serve well for home defense or carry, and as such, would also be suitable for IDPA competition. It is a solid six-shot double-action revolver that can accept a wide variety of ammunition, everything from light .38 Special wadcutters to heavy .357 Magnum hollow points. This gun has nice trigger pulls and a good lockup, it should provide the successful bidder with a lifetime of service and be a trustworthy sidekick for decades to come.
