Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Model 629 represents the stainless steel evolution of the legendary Model 29, carrying forward the N-frame magnum lineage that defined American double-action revolvers in the latter half of the 20th century. Introduced to meet demand for a corrosion-resistant .44 Magnum revolver, the Model 629 preserved the classic lines, balance, and mechanical authority of its blued predecessor while offering improved durability for field and service use. This example, produced in the early 1980s, reflects a period when Smith & Wesson continued to emphasize traditional manufacturing features and consistent fit and finish.

Chambered in .44 Magnum, the revolver is tied to one of the most influential handgun cartridges ever developed. Introduced in the 1950s, the .44 Magnum quickly earned a reputation for power, accuracy, and versatility, becoming a staple among handgun hunters and experienced revolver shooters. In a 4-inch configuration, the Model 629 offers a balanced profile that blends portability with substantial authority, supported by adjustable sights featuring a white-outlined rear notch and a red-insert front blade intended for fast acquisition and practical use.

This revolver retains approximately 95 percent of its original stainless finish, with light operational wear consistent with normal handling and use. The cylinder shows a thin, crisp turn line, markings remain clear, and screw heads are sharp, reinforcing the overall impression of careful ownership. The bright bore with well-defined rifling further supports its condition, while the smooth factory stocks with football thumb rests and gold medallions complete the classic N-frame presentation.
