Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “SMITH & WESSON / SPRINGFIELD, MA U.S.A.”. The barrel, visible through the ejection port, is marked “9MM / PARABELLUM”. The left side of the frame is marked “VYZ8392 / MOD 5906″. The right side of the frame is marked with the S&W trademark monogram. Each side of the grip at the top is marked “Smith & Wesson” and with the monogram logo.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade with a white dot dovetailed to a slight rise at the front of the slide. The rear sight is a square notched Novaks lo-mount sight with two white dots and dovetailed to the rear of the slide, it also has a set screw.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a black plastic, a one-piece wrap-around grip that wraps around the backstrap leaving the serrated front strap exposed. There are a few light marks. The checkering is generally sharp. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.   

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. There are some light handling marks, no major defects. There is standard operational wear. The markings are clear. The screwheads are sharp. Overall this pistol is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Slide-to-frame fit is snug. Single-action trigger has a smooth, light takeup with a crisp break and with very short reset, double-action trigger is smooth. This pistol has a magazine disconnect. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.  

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a serial matching case, manual, two 15-round MecGar magazines, and three Smith & Wesson 10-round magazines.

Our Assessment: The descendant of Smith & Wesson’s original “wonder nine” the model 59, this model 5906 has all stainless-steel construction, Novaks sights, and durable, one-piece plastic grips. This pistol is in Excellent condition and looks like it has hardly been out of the case. Chambered in the usually inexpensive and easy to find 9mm, with checkered and serrated grip and checkered trigger guard, it should provide a stable and comfortable shooter or carry piece for its new owner.
