There are a few scattered minor scuffs and handling marks, the cylinder has a thin, faint turn line and the hammer and trigger have minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup produces barely perceptible play on each chamber. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a blue plastic Smith & Wesson case with an assortment of factory paperwork not including the manual, keys for the fame lock, and the additional front sight blade. The case’s labels have been removed, but they are included in an envelope in the box.

Our Assessment: The S&W 500 is built on S&W’s largest frame, the X-Frame, which was developed because none of S&W’s existing double-action frame designs could handle the muzzle energy and pressures generated by the .500 S&W cartridge. It is one of the most powerful production revolvers in the world today, and it is being marketed as being “the world’s most powerful handgun” by S&W. The Model 500 can fire a bullet weighing 350 gr (22.7 g; 0.8 oz) at 1975 feet per second (602 m/s) generating a muzzle energy of over 3,030 foot-pounds force (4.1 kJ) and a momentum of 13.7 Newton second. The Smith & Wesson .500 Special is a shorter cartridge that is fully compatible with this pistol. This revolver looks to have been used infrequently, if at all, and stored properly. If you’re looking for your next hunting handgun, this one should take just about anything in North America, and probably the rest of the world. Please see our pictures and good luck!
