Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “Smith & Wesson / .44 Magnum”. The right side of the barrel is marked “29 Classic DX”. The sideplate is marked with the S&W logo. The right side of the frame has the four line Marcas Registradas Address. The crane cut is marked with the serial and model numbers. The butt is marked with the serial number. The sides of the grip frame and the crane have inspection marks. The rear face of the cylinder is marked “C”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramped blade with a red insert pinned to a rise in the serrated wide rib. The rear sight is a S&W square-notched white-outlined sight adjustable for windage and elevation. The topstrap is drilled and tapped under the rear sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are smooth Morado wood combat grips with S&W medallions. The grip has a few tiny marks through the finish on the right panel at the very top, otherwise there are no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The grip screw is short but still keeps the grip secure. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grip is in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The cylinder has a light, thin turn-line, the hammer and trigger show faint operational wear and there are a few scattered minor marks. Serrations and checkering are sharp. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The single action trigger is crisp and the double action is smooth. The cylinder locks up with hardly any play on each chamber. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a serial matching box with paperwork including the manual, four additional front sights, Pachmayr black checkered rubber grip in Excellent condition, and a cleaning kit. The box has a few light creases and scattered scuffs, in about Fine condition. The cleaning kit contains a rod, mop, bristle brush, and sight adjustment tool.
Our Assessment: This is a Model 29 Classic DX made in 1992. The Classic DX, or Classic Deluxe was made from 1991-1992 and the 5″ barrel was only made in 1992. It is a Deluxe version of the Classic Model and comes with Morado combat grips, four additional front sight blades, and is drilled and tapped under the rear sight. This one has been well maintained and looks like it sat in its box for almost 30 years. This would be a great revolver for target shooting, defense, or as a hunting backup. Of course, with its limited production and high condition, it should also pique the interest of Smith & Wesson collectors.
