Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the right is marked “44 MAGNUM”. The side plate has S&W’s monogram logo and the right side of the frame has the four-line Marcas Registradas address. The yoke cut is marked with the serial and model numbers. The butt is marked with the serial number. The yoke and the sides of the grip frame have inspector marks.
Barrel Length: 4″
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramp blade with a red insert set on a ramped base integral to the barrel rib. The rear sight is a flat top, square notched and white outlined leaf in a base that is micrometer click adjustable for windage and elevation.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered Goncalo Alves target stocks with S&W medallions at their tops and a speedloader cut. There are some scattered little marks through the finish, the most noticeable are on the bottom face of the left panel. There are a few little spots of finish loss, the most noticeable are on the right panel towards the bottom. There is a small gap between the two panels at the bottom front corner. There are some light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp. Overall, the grips are in about Fine Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 94% of its metal finish. There are some spots of discoloration from previous oxidation, some of the most noticeable are on the topstrap, hammer, trigger guard, and on the back of the frame above the grip frame. There are some little marks through the finish, the most noticeable are on the bottom of the ejector shroud, yoke, left side of the barrel at the frame, and bottom of the barrel. There is some thinning on the edge of the muzzle. There are some light scuffs and a couple draglines. There is a turn line through the finish on the cylinder. There are some scattered light handling marks. There is standard operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: Occasionally the cylinder will over-rotate on a couple of the chambers, otherwise the action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a blue felt re-lined presentation case with a mop, bristle brush, screwdriver, and cleaning rod. One of the hinges has been renailed and also has a nail missing.
Our Assessment: Developed in a collaboration between Smith & Wesson and Remington with the input of big-bore handgun shooters including Elmer Keith, The .44 Magnum revolver and cartridge took the revolver world by storm in the 1950s, later to be known worldwide, even outside the firearms community, as “the most powerful handgun in the world” due to its portrayal in the Dirty Harry movies. This is Smith & Wesson’s famous Model 29-3 built on the N-Frame with a square butt. This revolver has a nice blued finish, with a wide serrated case-colored trigger and wide checkered hammer. This is a 4″ example fitted with nice target stocks, it has one has light wear and looks to have seen gentle use. It will be a nice addition to add to your collection, especially if Smith & Wesson revolvers are your area of interest. The Smith & Wesson Model 29 is a timeless revolver that will likely never go out of style and makes for a great investment for shooters and collectors alike. Please see our pictures and good luck!
