Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”. The right side of the barrel is marked “44 MAGNUM”. The crane cut is marked with the serial number and model number “N782390 / MOD. 29-2”. The rear of the cylinder and rear face of the ejector shroud are marked “N”. The sideplate has the S&W monogram logo. The right side of the frame, below the cylinder, is marked with the four-line marcas registradas address. The butt is marked with the serial number “N782390”. The crane and sides of the grip frame are marked with inspection marks.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a ramped blade with an orange insert, integral to an elevated base that is integral to the rib, which is serrated for glare reduction. The rear sight is an S&W flat top, square notched, and white-outlined leaf that is micrometer click adjustable for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered Goncalo Alves target stocks with S&W medallions and a football cut. There are a few scuffs that have lightly thinned the finish. There are a few little areas of finish loss and small marks through the finish, the most noticeable are on the bottom edges and on the side of the right panel down towards the bottom. There are light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp with a few areas of light wear. Overall, the grips are in about Fine Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are some light draglines and swirl marks. There are a few little cloudy areas on the sideplate. The sideplate has a small spot of finish loss that has taken on oxidation, it is at the screw at the grip panel. There are some scattered light handling marks. The screwheads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lockup produces minimal side-to-side movement. The double-action is smooth and the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a wood presentation case with a cleaning kit, screwdriver, and paperwork including the manual.

Our Assessment: Developed in a collaboration between Smith & Wesson and Remington with the input of big-bore handgun shooters including Elmer Keith, The .44 Magnum revolver and cartridge took the revolver world by storm in the 1950s, later to be known worldwide, even outside the firearms community, as “the most powerful handgun in the world” due to its portrayal in the Dirty Harry movies. This is Smith & Wesson’s famous Model 29-2 built on the N-Frame with a square butt. This revolver has a beautiful nickel finish, with a wide serrated case-colored semi-target trigger and wide checkered target hammer. It will be a nice addition to add to your collection, especially if Smith & Wesson revolvers are your area of interest.
