Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the right is marked “44 MAGNUM”. The side plate has S&W’s monogram logo and the right side of the frame has the four-line Marcas Registradas address. The yoke cut is marked with the serial and model numbers. The butt is marked with the serial number. The yoke and sides of the grip frame have inspection marks.

Barrel Length: 8 3/8″ Pinned

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramp blade with a red insert pinned to a ramped base integral to the barrel rib. The red insert has some minor play. The rear sight is a flat top, square notched and white outlined leaf in a base that is micrometer click adjustable for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered Goncalo Alves target stocks with S&W medallions and a football cut. There are some scattered little spots of finish loss, the most noticeable are on the football cut. There are some areas of finish wear on the bottom edges. There are some light marks on the bottom faces. There are a few little nicks and light marks on the left panel towards the bottom. There are some light handling marks. The panels are shy to the backstrap. The checkering is mostly sharp. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Fine condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a few scattered light marks from use and storage. There is some light finish wear on the edge of the muzzle. There is light operational wear. The cylinder has a light turn line. The markings are mostly clear though portions of the monogram logo are bit light. The screwheads are sharp. Overall, this revolver is in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder locks up with light play on each chamber when the trigger is depressed. The double-action trigger is smooth and the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a wood presentation case, cleaning kit, screwdriver, paperwork including the manual, and a Bianchi holster. The blue lining has some cracks.

Our Assessment: Developed in a collaboration between Smith & Wesson and Remington with the input of big-bore handgun shooters including Elmer Keith, The .44 Magnum revolver and cartridge took the revolver world by storm in the 1950s, later to be known worldwide, even outside the firearms community, as “the most powerful handgun in the world” due to its portrayal in the Dirty Harry movies. This is Smith & Wesson’s famous Model 29-2 built on the N-Frame with a square butt. This revolver has a beautiful blued finish, with a wide serrated case-colored trigger and wide checkered hammer. This one has hardly any wear and looks to have seen gentle use. It comes with a wood presentation case with paperwork including the manual & a cleaning kit, it will be a nice display piece.
