Our Assessment:  The Model 24-3 was a 1983 reintroduction of the Model 24, Model of 1950 .44 Special Target revolver.  The Model of 1950 was, in turn, the successor to the 1926 Model .44 Target.  The Model 1950 had a shrouded target rod usually reserved for magnum calibers.

This is a great addition to any Smith collector’s safe. The reissue of the model 24 was a limited production run and it is estimated that only 2,625 of these revolvers were manufactured with the 4″ barrel.

For those more inclined to shoot than collect, the gun fits well in the hand and points nicely.  If one pairs that with a nice S&W trigger pull and you have a winner.  This is a purpose built revolver for competition, and with the S&W name on it you can’t go wrong no matter if it is for collecting or shooting.
