The grips are two-piece checkered black hard rubber target extension stocks with S&W monograms and smooth diamonds. Each panel has losses in the back edge toward the top. The right panel has minor discoloration, going to a brown color. There are a few minor marks. The checkering is well defined. Overall, the grips are in about Good condition.

Type of Finish:
Blue

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is strong. There are few little marks and spots of faint pinprick erosion. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 95% of its metal finish. There is some light handling wear in the grip areas. There is a little finish wear at the muzzle and hinge. There is some minor scuffing and a few tiny nicks. The screw heads are sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear, some have soft edges or polish “shadows”. Overall, the pistol is in Very Good-Fine condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrel lockup has barely perceptible play. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories:
None.

Our Assessment: Beginning with the Model of 1891, their first single-shot pistol, Smith & Wesson gained a reputation for making one of the finest target pistols available in the world. The first three models bore a resemblance to Smith & Wesson’s revolver offerings, with the 1st Model even retaining the full recoil shield of the .38 Single Action 3rd Model revolver. This example is a Second Model and has a 10″ barrel paired with nice hard rubber target extension stocks. The bore on this is still nice and so are the mechanics, this would be a joy to plink with and will also make a nice addition to a collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
