Grips / Stock Configuration & Condition: Aftermarket Hogue Monogrip with cobblestone texture and finger grooves fitted to the frame; the grip is undamaged and provides a comfortable purchase for heavy-recoil rounds.

Type of Finish: Nickel-plated bright finish.

Finish Originality: Retains the factory nickel finish; shows light handling marks and small surface scratches consistent with careful carry/use, but no deep gouges or structural pitting.

Overall Condition: Very Good — estimate approximately 94% plus finish retained with normal small handling marks and minor scuffs. No apparent structural damage; cylinder, forcing cone, and frame face look sound.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly in both double and single action; the wide serrated trigger and knurled target hammer cycle smoothly, and the cylinder locks up solidly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Accessories: Bianchi leather holster marked “BIANCHI #111 ‘CYCLONE’ PATENT PENDING” in good serviceable condition; also accompanied by the wooden display case, tools, and manual.

Our Assessment:
The Model 57-1 occupies a special place in S&W history as the large-frame .41 Magnum revolver built to offer magnum performance with manageable recoil compared to a .44. This nickel example with an 8 3/8″ barrel is a classic late-production example that presents well — the bright bore and largely intact nickel finish make it a strong candidate for both the collector who wants a presentable example and the enthusiast seeking a big-bore shooter that’s been cared for. The Hogue Monogrip is a practical modern upgrade for handling the .41’s recoil, and the included Bianchi Cyclone holster is a thoughtful period-appropriate accessory that complements the package.

Cosmetically, the revolver shows honest use and careful ownership: light surface marks and small handling scuffs but no evidence of repair or abuse, solid cylinder lockup, and clear factory rollmarks. With approximately 94% finish retention, a bright 10/10 bore, and sound mechanics, this Model 57-1 is a desirable, ready-to-own example of Smith & Wesson’s big-bore heritage. We are no longer offering layaway. KF
