Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “500 S&W MAGNUM”. The left side of the frame has the S&W monogram, the right is marked with the four-line Marcas Registradas and “500 S&W”. The right side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”.  

Barrel Length: 8 3/8 ths inch. 

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a red fiber optic blade pinned to a riser in the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable square notch target sight screw set to the frame.   

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one-piece cobblestone textured black rubber Hogue Monogrip with finger grooves and molded S&W logos at the top on each side which fully encloses the grip frame. The grip has no notable wear or damage. There are no rips or tears. Overall, the grip is in about Excellent Like New condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. The cylinder has some very minor burn fouling on the face but each chamber is very clean In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.75/10.  

Overall Condition: This pistol shows only minor handling wear and some very fine lines in the finish common with stainless. The cylinder has a very thin turn line. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent+ condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup produces very light play on each chamber. The trigger pull is exceptionally crisp with almost no overtravel.  We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.  

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver includes a serialized S&W blue case with foam, spent casing and info card, manual and paperwork, cable lock with keys, lock keys, rod, allen wrench, extra comp, and front sight blade.  

Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Model 500 chambered in .500 S&W Magnum with an 8 3/8″ barrel is a powerhouse revolver designed for serious big game hunting and high-impact range use.
