Barrel Length: 5″
Sights / Optics: Fixed red-ramp front sight with integral muzzle brake and an adjustable notched rear sight. The rear sight body shows light surface oxidation at the base; the sight is otherwise serviceable.
Stock Configuration & Condition: Factory black Hogue rubber grips fitted to the large X-frame tang. Grips show light handling wear but no tears or separation and present as serviceable for handling and recoil control.
Magazine / Cylinder / Accessories: Five-shot stainless steel cylinder. Comes in original blue molded S&W hard case with factory manual, cable lock, spare factory shims/parts in poly bag, the original Smith & Wesson test envelope, and an LSB lot insert.
Type Of Finish: Brushed / satin stainless steel. The finish displays even handling wear and light surface scratches consistent with use.
Finish Originality: Original factory finish (no evidence of a refinish observed).
Bore Condition: The bore is bright; the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore but there is light fouling throughout. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: Overall, Very Good. Approximately 95% of the original finish appears retained — visible light handling marks, minor holster/handling wear on the cylinder flank and under the barrel, and small spots of surface oxidation on the front/rear sight hardware and the sight dovetail. There are no deep pits or gouges evident to the major components; the muzzle brake shows normal use at the ports consistent with loaded-fire handling. The cosmetic presentation is consistent with a well-kept revolver that has seen periodic use.
Mechanics: Cylinder locks up solidly; the action functions smoothly in both double- and single-action. The extractor, timing, and cylinder rotation appear normal for this model. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box / Paperwork & Accessories: Original blue S&W hard case, Smith & Wesson Safety & Instruction Manual, factory test envelope (signed Allen Wajda, dated 03-28-06), spare small parts in factory bag, and cable lock. No additional aftermarket optics or holsters included.
Our Assessment: The Model 460V represents Smith & Wesson’s purpose-built X-Frame approach to extracting maximum performance from a production revolver chambered for the .460 S&W Magnum. Introduced in the mid-2000s, the 460 family was developed with Hornady to push velocity and energy for serious big-game revolver hunting. This example, bearing the 460V compensated five-inch configuration, retains its factory stainless finish and original grips and comes with the original case, manual and factory test envelope dated 2006 — items that add to its completeness for a modern-era collector or a shooter seeking a stout revolver for large-game use.
This particular revolver is a solid, ready-to-own example: mechanically sound, clean bore, original finish largely intact, and accompanied by Smith & Wesson factory paperwork and case. It will appeal to collectors of modern Magnum revolvers and to serious hunters who appreciate the ballistic capability of the .460 S&W Magnum. We are no longer offering layaway.
