The front sight is a serrated Patridge blade set on a ramped base integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a Smith & Wesson Micrometer Click adjustable square-notch blade.

Stock Configuration & Condition:
The revolver is fitted with magna-style walnut grips with S&W medallions. The checkering has worn smooth in places and the grips show significant finish loss and wear around the edges, consistent with age and frequent handling. There are dings, flattening to the diamonds, and edge wear, but no cracks or major damage. The grips are serviceable but well-worn.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition:
The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is some fouling visible, but no erosion. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition:
This revolver retains about 80% of its metal finish. The muzzle and leading edges show holster wear and thinning to the blue. The cylinder has a visible but not deep turn line. The backstrap and frontstrap exhibit handling wear and some scattered freckling. Screw heads show light use with strong slots. All markings remain clear and legible. Overall, this revolver is in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics:
The action functions correctly. The double- and single-action trigger pulls are smooth, and the cylinder locks up well. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories:
Included with this revolver is a black leather belt holster, showing typical wear from use but remaining serviceable with intact stitching and hardware.

Our Assessment:
The Smith & Wesson Model 14-3, also known as the K-38 Target Masterpiece, is a precision revolver built on S&W’s legendary K-frame and tailored specifically for target shooters. With its 6” barrel, Patridge front sight, and Micrometer Click rear, the Model 14 was the gold standard for .38 Special revolver accuracy in the pre-semiauto service pistol era.

This 1969 example comes from the classic era of pinned barrels and recessed cylinders. Its fit and finish, even with honest wear from use, still demonstrate Smith & Wesson’s high craftsmanship of the time. Though the magna grips show their age, the mechanics remain solid and the bore is in excellent condition, making this a viable option for vintage target shooting or range use.

Collectors value the 14-3 for its place in revolver history, and shooters appreciate it for its balance and crisp action. Whether you’re looking to add a K-frame classic to your collection or want a capable revolver with old-school charm and accuracy, this one deserves a spot in your safe. The included leather holster makes it even more practical for range carry or storage. So bid high and bid firm. I encourage you to take a look at the condition in our high quality photos. Good luck on your bid. -K.F.
