Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “ S&W 357 Magnum”. The right side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”. The yoke cut is marked with the serial number and model number “BBA4806/ 686-2”. The left side of the frame has the S&W monogram logo. The right side of the frame, below the cylinder, is marked with the four-line marcas registradas. The butt is marked with the serial number “BBA4806”. The crane and sides of the grip frame are marked with inspection marks. Both grip panels are marked with “.357 and the S&W Logo”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramped blade with a red insert and is set on a serrated elevated base that is integral to the rib, which is serrated for glare reduction. The rear sight is a black S&W micrometer click, flat top, square notched leaf that is adjustable for windage and elevation.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a two-piece hardwood grip with combat styled finger grooves with the silver S&W medallions. There are no handling marks . Overall, the grips are in excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few little scuffs and rubs that have caused smooth spots, the most noticeable are on the cylinder. There are a few light handling marks and draglines. There is a light turn line on the cylinder. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about very Fine plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lockup produces very light side-to-side movement with the trigger depressed. The double-action is smooth and the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The 686 has been made in a variety of configurations since 1980 filling just about any role that could be asked of a .357 Magnum revolver. This example is the 686-2 with a 2.5? barrel, round butt grip frame, fluted cylinder, Stainless classic finish, but most notably is chambered for 6, .357 Magnum Rounds.
