Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “40 TACTICAL SMITH & WESSON / SPRINGFIELD, MA U.S.A.” and the “SW” trademark. The left side of the frame is marked “S&W SPFLD.MA U.S.A. /MOD 4006TSW /CHP7064. The right side of the frame, slide and chamber is marked “E7064”. The top of the chamber is marked “40 S&W” The grips have Smith & Wesson monograms molded at their center tops.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a dotted blade dovetailed to the slide.  The rear sight is a rectangular notch sight dovetailed to the slide with two white dots.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are one piece synthetic checkered grips that wrap around the backstrap.  The frame’s front strap is checkered. There is heavy handling wear.  The checkering is worn with dulled peaks that are nearly worn smooth at the pressure points.  There are nicks and scrapes throughout. There are no chips or cracks. Overall the grips rate in Fair condition.

Magazine Quantity & Condition: Five 10rd .40 S&W magazine in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition:  The bore is bright and the rifling is defined though the edges of the lands have lost their sharpness. There is no erosion in the bore. There is heavy fouling in the grooves with build up.  In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 7/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 79% of its metal finish. There is heavy handling wear on the slide where the shoulders of the slide have been nearly worn to white.  There are scratches and drag lines on the slide throughout.  There is finish loss on the safeties and takedown lever.  The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions as intended. The double action is smooth and has a clean break with a good amount of travel. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:  The Smith & Wesson 4006 TSW is a notable semi-automatic pistol that played a significant role in the evolution of law enforcement and personal defense firearms for only two years..
