Our Assessment: In 2007 Smith and Wesson released a short run of side by sides, the “Elite” made by their plant in Turkey. They were available in 20 ga, the Gold model, and 12 ga, the Silver model. They were aimed at the upland market and released at a moderate, for SxS that is, of $2350. Around 3000 of this Gold model were built during their 3 year production run ending in 2010. The boxlock design is sought after for it’s overall slimmer profile and light nimble handling.
This example remains in very good overall condition, retaining approximately 94% of its original blued and case hardened finish. The bores are bright with only minor fouling and no visible erosion, rating a strong 9/10. The walnut stocks display minor but honest field wear including scuffs, handling marks, and softened checkering, but remain structurally sound. This model is stocked with a pistol grip stock with a checkered butt for improved shoulder purchase and a slender splinter forend. If you’re a collector, shooter, or upland hunter who appreciates fine European craftsmanship at a more approachable price point than English doubles, this Smith and Wesson represents an outstanding value. This particular gun choked CYL/IC would be an amazing grouse or thick cover quail gun. Please take a look at the pictures and good luck on your bid! MF
