Our Assessment: The P6 was designed for a West German police contract when their old pistols were outdated. The big names in German weapons making entered the bidding process including Walther with their P5, H&K with the classic P7, and Sig offered the P6. The P6 is basically a shrunk-down P220 chambered for 9mm. Walther and H&K lost because of price, so Sig decided to get creative. The slide was made of stamped steel and welded together with a steel breechblock pinned into the slide. It was inexpensive to produce and that ultimately was one of the reasons the German police purchased it. The German government approved pistols for sale to police and designated the models with a “P” for police (Polizei) and, after the P225 was configured to West German standards, it was called the P6. Another one of its interesting features is the little cut in the hammer spur, this was actually so that it was easy to tell if the gun was abused, they are commonly snapped off. This one has survived well and looks really great for a service weapon considering it was issued to the Nordrhein-Westfalen (NW mark on slide) Police in the 1980s. With its parts matched barrel, slide, and frame this is an excellent addition to a collection of Sigs, drop a bid. Please see our photos and good luck!
