Action Type: Striker-fired, modular fire control unit (serialized FCU)

Markings: The frame is molded with “NEWINGTON, NH, USA” adjacent to the FCU cutout and the serialized FCU number TF001498 is visible in the frame recess. The ejection port/slide shows “9mm x 19” with contract code “6ZWB1 13067009.” The box is marked “UDM17-9-SURPLUS” with matching serial. Department of the Army FOIA documentation confirms this pistol was issued to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Heavy Weapons Unit before returning to DLA Anniston and Sig Sauer for commercial sale.

Barrel Length: 4.7″

Sights / Optics: SigLite night sights (rear sight marked HZ H3 17).

Finish / Exterior: Factory coyote tan (FDE/Coyote) PVD finish on frame and slide with nitron-finished internals. Light wear and faint holster marks are visible on the slide flats and serrations, consistent with the documented issue.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore but there is stubborn fouling throughout. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Mechanics: The modular FCU operates properly with positive engagement on slide lock, takedown, and trigger. The included spare recoil spring assembly, two 21-round magazines, and one 17-round steel magazine are all factory-original. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Accessories: Factory cardboard box with matching serial label, foam insert, (2) 21-round magazines, (1) 17-round steel magazine, spare recoil spring assembly, cable lock, operator’s manual, and FOIA letter verifying U.S. Army service and issue history.

Provenance / History: According to the enclosed FOIA documentation, this pistol was accepted into service in 2017 and issued to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Heavy Weapons Unit. It was later turned in through Fort Campbell channels and processed for return to Sig Sauer through DLA Anniston, Alabama.

Our Assessment: The M17 represents the modern evolution of the U.S. military’s sidearm program — this verified example served with the 101st Airborne Division’s Heavy Weapons Unit before release. Its FOIA documentation confirms field service, making it an authentic and highly desirable surplus M17 for collectors of contemporary U.S. military small arms. The pistol retains its original military finish, matching the serialized box, and full accessory set, offering an excellent combination of provenance and presentation. We are no longer offering layaway. KF
