Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SAVAGE MODEL 12 PALMA CAL. .308”, along with Savage’s Westfield address. The right side of the barrel is marked with Savage’s 3-line warning and address. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, and “WARNING: PRECISION TARGET TRIGGER / POINT IN A SAFE DIRECTION, THEN LOAD AND CLOSE BOLT WITH EXTREME CARE”.

Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Leupold VX-II 3-9×40 scope with a duplex reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows no notable wear. Overall, the scope rates in Excellent condition. The scope is mounted on a two-piece Leupold-style base, and sits in 1” rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece, fully adjustable laminate wood stock, with a pistol grip with palm swells, adjustable comb, adjustable LOP, a wide forend, and an inlaid accessory rail in the bottom of the forend. The LOP, though adjustable, currently measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows no notable wear. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play, while the barrel remains completely free-floating. The stock’s finish is intact and the laminate wood shows vivid colors. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows one small patch of surface corrosion on the top of the barrel, about half way down, and a few light scratches and handling wear on the bolt handle. The stainless finish is intact, and the jeweling on the bolt is vivid and bright. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the tang mounted safety. The adjustable Accu-Trigger has a very light, crisp, and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

This example shows excellent overall condition, with only a few small handling marks on the metal, a vivid and fully adjustable stock, and a bore that remains exceptionally bright and sharp.
