Markings: The top of the left barrel is marked “FOX”, “SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION / WESTFIELD, MASS. U.S.A. / (Patents that cannot be made out)”, and “MODEL B”. The top of the right barrel is marked “PROOF TESTED .410 BORE / 3 INCH CHAMBER”. The sides of the receiver are marked “FOX” on a banner surrounded by scrolls. The right side of the receiver is marked “FOX BST”. The bottom of the receiver is marked with a fox head and what looks like “15P” in an oval. The left barrel flat, forend iron, and left water table all have “GE”, encircled “A” and encircled “H”. The left water table is also marked “B”. The right water table is marked “S” and with a proof. The bottom of the forend lug is marked “4”. The bottom of the barrel lug is marked with an encircled “SP” and “Z”.

Choke: Both Full, both fixed

Sights / Optics: There is a large silver-colored bead mounted to the front of the rib with a smaller silver-colored mid-bead. The top of the rib is finely checkered to reduce glare.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece checkered wood with a beavertail forend, capped pistol grip, straight comb, and serrated black hard rubber buttplate. The wood shows some scratches and compressions with the most notable on the left side of the buttstock. There are a couple of flattened checkers but the checkering is generally sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Drop at comb is approximately 1 1/2″, drop at heel 2 3/4″. The plate has some scattered light nicks and scratches with minor material loss at the heel. The stocks rate in about Very Good-Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. The trigger guard has some minor nicks. The barrel has some dispersed little marks. The case coloring is strong. The markings are mostly clear aside from the patent on the left barrel. The screw heads are lightly marked with strong slots. The shotgun rates in about Fine-Plus overall condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly including extractor. The barrels lock up with no play to the receiver. We did not fire this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The side-by-side shotgun is still around for a reason, they just work! This example is a Savage Fox BST with ventilated rib on its 26″ barrels choked Full, single trigger, and an extractor. This is a tough double for the field and should make a great hunting shotgun. The gun is in about Fine-plus condition with 97% of its metal finish, light wear in the stocks, and bright bores. Please see our photos and good luck!
